Blade Runner 2049 is set thirty years after the original film, leaving a sizable distance in the story that needed to be addressed. To bridge this gap and to introduce central characters in advance of the theatrical release, the 3AM team worked with Alcon Entertainment to create an anthology of prologue short films called “Lost Memories.”
The first piece, “Nexus Dawn", takes place ten years before the events of 2049 and introduces the ruthless Niander Wallace (Jared Leto) and explains the evolution of replicant technology.
The second prologue film, “Nowhere to Run,” focuses on a fugitive replicant, Sapper Morton, played by Dave Bautista. One heroic decision by Morton kicks off a series of events that leads audiences into the opening scene of Blade Runner 2049.
